Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued working through the first Math portion of the ACT. Overall, he is doing quite well. Although we will need to work on increasing his speed, he is very accurate when given enough time. Also, he is exceptional at making informed guesses, which will be a significant strength come June."
"During our initial meeting, the student and I discussed her overall strengths and weaknesses with the ACT Math. Based on the distribution of topics covered on the exam, for her to increase her score from a preliminary 32 to a 34, she should have a full command of pre-algebra and plane geometry. These topics each comprise 23% of the exam. To begin, her preparatory book has a content review section followed by a quick 10-question quiz to confirm comprehension of the material. Since she is looking to take the exam in June, it would be good if we could cover 2 full sections a session (pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and trigonometry). Overall, she is very competent and picks up material relatively quickly. In areas where she in unaware of the answer, I provided tactics to break down the problem into something more familiar so that the problem does not look as foreign or daunting. More exposure to material and repetition will definitely be beneficial for her."
"The student and I reviewed fill in the blank techniques. Then we worked on critical reading after I gave him a sheet on tips. He did well. Then we reviewed vocabulary (which needed work)."
