Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked through a proof. He did a good job and was quick to see an ASA situation, ultimately proving congruence in two triangles. From here, I utilized side lengths which required the formulation of algebraic expressions which were solved utilizing the quadratic formula, which the student recognized and applied. He needed help rationalizing and simplifying the resulting outputs, so we walked through the simplification process."
"We specifically covered multiplying radicals and simplifying radicals. The student was able to understand much of the solving processes, but has a little difficulty applying previous knowledge into current problems (Ex: Exponential rules). I left her to finish the rest of the homework at home. Overall, the session was excellent."
"Reviewed 3 and 4 times table. The student had 2 math worksheets for home work that he needed help with. Estimating quotient using compatible numbers and dividing using base ten blocks. After modeling examples, he was able to complete the worksheets on his own."
"The student says she's struggling, though I noticed is just a matter of addressing a few kinks and misconceptions she has for every subject. I'm glad is not an issue of her not understanding most of the topics but rather building confidence in her strategies"
"The student had an upcoming quiz on some of the sections of rational expressions and had homework on products and quotients of rational expressions. We mostly worked on her homework problems in order to demonstrate what she knows about the concept of these expressions. On the other hand, we did go over a few of the problems from each section to be sure that she knew what she's doing. She still knows how to grasp the concepts of each lesson, and I advised her to double check her work."
"Student 1, student 2 and I all worked on functions as they pertain to mathematics. They both appeared to have a great grasp of the content. The boys have many great exam scores to showcase their progress. As always, I really enjoyed working with them."
"We looked at what was covered on the student's last test, then used the process of elimination to decide which chapter material her test would cover for Friday and made a plan for this week's study. This plan should work for all chapters of the book, but will feel like a lot of work since this chapter is fit into a week instead of several. Plans for future sessions were made, and a flashcard set for Ch. 2 was begun. She's been assigned extra work in preparation for her test Friday."
"The student was given an Algebra assignment from her class today. She solved the word problems and explained the concepts to me. We also practiced similar questions from her work book. She continues to make great strides in our sessions and I am very encouraged by her progress."
"The student and I went over simple and compound interest problems. She had already worked a couple of compound interest problems in class so she did not seem to have a problem with this."
"We covered quadratic inequalities, how to solve them by graphing, and went over a take home worksheet. The worksheet included finding equations for quadratic functions and the different forms of quadratic functions such as vertex form, standard form, and factor form."
"We covered mean value theorem and u substitution. The student said he did well on his quiz two weeks ago. He is a great student who works really hard and completes all his homework. I did give extra problems for him to do as well."
"We began going through the student's practice test for the final exam. It is a cumulative review of all of the content that she has learned thus far this term.
She informed me last week that she scored a 87% on the last exam that she took last Tues. She seemed pleased with the results.
In reviewing for the final, it appears that she needed to be refreshed about polynomials, graphing functions, and topics from the second exam.
She will continue to practice on her final review. When we meet on Friday this week, we will review the concepts that she did not fully understand in the second unit. These concepts are system of linear equations with three equations, average rate of change, complex zeroes of a polynomial, local max and mins of a function, and one to one functions."
