Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session with the student was a review of how to determine the area of the surface of different prisms. First, I explained to her the meaning of the formula and what it means as related to the whole shape. After this, she tried to solve a problem, but she got confused at first on how to apply the formula. I helped her to better understand and solve the problem. Now, she is able to do it by herself. When she pays attention, she gets the concepts really fast."
"Tonight, the student and I briefly reviewed what we worked on last week (weighted averages) and touched on equations involving distance and speed. He quickly recalled the material and seems to be making good progress. We then went on to talk about direct and inverse relations/proportions. He understands the main concept, but we will continue working on memorizing which formula applies in a given situation."
"Tonight, we first went over using augmented matrices in order to solve systems of equations. There was a strange problem that she had gotten incorrect on her last exam, which she is going to ask her teacher about tomorrow. We also went over multiplying imaginary numbers and finding the roots or zeroes of a function using the quadratic formula. She is an extremely bright girl and a quick learner. I am looking forward to working with her again sometime! Thank you so much for this opportunity."
"Tonight, we went over dividing by monomials, and that was really pretty easy. Dividing by binomials was nowhere near as simple, but the student caught on quickly. I was very impressed that she could do them by herself when the lesson ended."
"Tonight, we worked on a study guide. The concepts we reviewed involved mostly x and y intercepts, coordinates, and multi-step equations. It was a little of an algebra 1 review with some more in depth analysis. The student struggles with fractions. Every time we work on them, she gets better and knows how to do them. Tomorrow, we are going to review some more, and we'll try to be the most prepared for her math test this Friday."
"Tonight, we worked on some assessment and practice problems. The student made some minor mistakes, but when we went back through the problems, he himself was able to see the mistakes and correct them. The key to his success will be organization and turning in all of his assignments. There are some areas where practice will help, but he has a decent foundation. The biggest area right now is word problems. We were working through one, and I have some examples. Also, we worked on creating our own word problems from a basic equation."
