I gave the student some time during the session to study, so that we could begin with reviewing the vocabulary until he was comfortable. After having researched fun vocabulary games online, what I decided to do, in order to make the process more interesting, was not only make flashcards, but also alphabet cards. The alphabet cards totaled 78 because I wanted to have three of each letter. This way, we could account for words that would contain two or more of the same letter. I placed the stack of letter cards on the table, and every time I would read a definition to him, as well as the part(s) of speech, it would then be his job to put the word together, using the letter cards. This made the session very fun for him, as he enjoyed having to put the words together using the cards. Being that he is a numbers person because of his affinity for math, I decided to incorporate numbers into the vocabulary session by telling him the number of letters in the word in which I defined. I also suggested to him, as part of his home studying, that he break down the words based on the number of letters they possess and thereby put them into groups. For example, he could have a column of words that have six letters, one with five letters, eight, etc. He was so excited, that he wanted to keep going. The math questions initially intended for the second hour of our session were instead given as homework, which we will be going over during our next session. His vocabulary homework was graded and he did much better on it, in terms of his ability to generate sentences based off of the terms and the parts of speech to which they belonged.
