Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we reviewed some homework problems that involved simple linear regression and multiple linear regression. Some involved the use and interpretation of dummy variables. The student will send me a copy of her mid-term and some previous homework assignments. Then, I will spend some time identifying what types of problems that she can practice in preparation for her final exam. We have our next session scheduled for Tuesday night."
"This session we covered linear regression in SPSS. The student struggled with some of the SPSS functions and interpreting outputs, but gained a good understanding towards the end of our session. The student did somewhat poorly on last week's assignment due to not fully answering the questions. I will comment on the student's answers to ensure completeness for future assignments. I gained an understanding of the teacher's expectations, which will help going forward."
"This was our first session. For the student's final exam, we went through chapters 1-3 of her review sheet. This included topics on variable types, various averages, standard deviation, z-scores, and basic plots. She understood most of material already, and picked up on the rest rather quickly. We still have seven chapters to target before her final. We'll continue to work on that in our next session."
"This was the first of 3 review sessions that the student and I will have before his final exam. We started all the way back at Chapter 1, reviewing terminology. We worked our way through calculations of basic statistics: mean, median, mode, standard dev, variance, and z-scores. We discussed the vocab of each one and then worked through practice problems together so that he could get practice calculating. We also looked at and evaluated different graphs. I showed the student some new ways to use his calculator to help him get through the problems quickly and efficiently for the exam."
"Today and yesterday, the student and I did a bunch of review for his final exam. He has a great understanding of many of the details, so we're focusing on the most difficult components for the test using his review packet and other materials."
"Today I helped the student with a review of his homework assignment that involved calculating the z-score to find the differences between sample and population means. We calculated means, standard deviations, and calculated p-values from the z-table."
