Example Questions
Example Question #1 : Weather Forecasting
What is the purpose of forecasting severe weather?
To make the best guess just for fun.
People can ignore the warning and do what they want.
People can prepare and stay safe.
People can prepare and stay safe.
When severe weather is forecast or predicted it gives people time to respond and prepare. If I know a bad storm is coming I can make plans and be ready so I stay safe.
Example Question #71 : Earth & Space Science
If the waves are forecasted to be this big the day of my beach trip what should I do?
Stay home, that isn't safe.
Go to the beach and swim all day.
Go to the beach but stay on the shore.
Stay home, that isn't safe.
With waves as large as the picture shows it would not be a safe day to go to the beach! Watching a weather forecast before going to the beach allows us time to respond in a way that would keep us safe.
Example Question #3 : Weather Forecasting
How can I stay safe from bad weather outside?
The weather is always safe outside
Watch the weather forecast
Look outside and make the best guess
Watch the weather forecast
If bad weather is approaching a weather forecast usually predicts and shares this information ahead of time so people can respond and prepare. It is best to respond in a way to keep you safe!
Example Question #4 : Weather Forecasting
What would a forecaster say to do if this was today's weather?
Wear a sundress
Wear a scarf and mittens
Wear rain boots
Wear a scarf and mittens
A forecaster would be able to see patterns about the weather and know that when it snows it is also cold. The forecaster would most likely remind people to wear a scarf and mittens to stay warm.
Example Question #5 : Weather Forecasting
Why is it important to predict future weather?
To keep us safe
So my dog doesn't get wet when it rains
So I can have more fun outside
To keep us safe
It is important to predict future weather so that we can all stay safe. If we know how to respond to weather conditions we will be prepared. Forecasters respond based on patterns they see to let us know what is happening outside!
Example Question #6 : Weather Forecasting
Weather forecasting is just guessing what will happen. Anyone can do it!
False
True
False
Weather forecasting is done by looking at patterns in the weather to determine what will happen in the future. The people who study weather are called meteorologists and go to college to learn all about weather and its patterns!
Example Question #7 : Weather Forecasting
What is the best way to get information about the weather?
Make guesses based on your dreams
Make observations and collect data
Ask a friend who is outside a lot
Make observations and collect data
Gathering information about the weather can be done by making observations and collecting data about previous weather patterns. Asking a friend or making a guess is not a scientific way of getting information.
Example Question #72 : Earth & Space Science
Which picture shows severe weather that I should respond to quickly?
The correct answer choice shows a tornado which is a very severe weather condition. It is a dangerous storm that has very high wind and causes a lot of damage. In the case of a tornado we must respond quickly.
Example Question #9 : Weather Forecasting
It is summer and has rained every afternoon. What would a forecaster most likely say about this afternoon?
It will not rain
It will probably rain
There is no way to know about the rain
It will probably rain
The weather forecaster (meteorologist) would look at the pattern from the week and most likely respond with a guess of a rainy afternoon. It is not likely the pattern will change.
Example Question #10 : Weather Forecasting
I will not be able to go to the park today because a _____________ is predicted.
light wind
sunny day
thunderstorm
thunderstorm
A thunderstorm is a severe weather storm that needs to be taken seriously. It will be raining and lightning can be dangerous. If severe weather is forecast for that day I should respond by staying home.
