Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"She worked on homework that covered quadratic equations, finding the standard, vertex form and intercept form of the quadratic equation given various pieces of information such as vertex, or two points. She also practiced factoring and using the completing the square to solve a quadratic equation."
"Since this was the first time the student and I met, we spent a little bit of time in the beginning to get to know a little bit about one another. The student decided that this session we would focus on her math homework, as her chemistry topics on periodic trends were relatively easy for her to understand. For the Algebra 2 section, we spent time understand quadratic formulas and how to find the standard form of an equation given imaginary and real roots. Additionally, we covered word problems involving parabolas such as a motorcycle jumping from one ramp to another. I made sure she understood how to interpret information from her graphing calculator as well. Overall, I believe the session went well. I hope that during our next session, we can progress faster and more thoroughly through the topics."
"Some algebraic properties, mostly word problems, were covered today. The student did well as we progressed. She was struggling a bit staying focused, but generally did very well (she needs to practice properties). She has a great attitude and seems less than confident. Number sense and memory strategies will need to be covered in our next session."
"Spent most of the first hour working on the student's cursive handwriting. That continues to be an area requiring improvement and practice outside of the times we meet. Other language arts topics tested his knowledge of capitalization and sentence structure. Math topics for today featured borrowing when doing subtraction and introducing inequalities."
"Spent most of the time determining with the student what habits are necessary to be successful in Algebra II. We agreed that additional problem sets/tests are key in preparation for successful testing. The student will be completing 5 pre-tests before our next meeting."
"Student 1 and I completed a study guide for an upcoming test on multiplication. We also reviewed mass, volume, and elapsed time. He was focused and worked well. Student 2 and I prepared for an upcoming test on computing decimal and fraction integers. She worked quickly and accurately, welcoming each challenge. She also asked questions about computing density for her science class, and we practiced dividing mass by volume to find density. She told me she scored 100 on a recent math quiz."
