During our session today we began by going over the review questions for section 2 of chapter 16 of the student's biology textbook. There were a few concepts in this section, specifically gene flow and genetic drift, and the three different types of selection, that she had a little trouble understanding. I explained them to her and had her reread the sections in her book referring to those topics. She seemed to understand them better afterwards and was able to restate them in her own words and come up with examples for each. Next we moved onto Spanish. She has just begun to study formal and informal commands in Spanish so we did a quick review of how to do them and then I had her go through a couple of worksheets for practice. She seemed to understand pretty well! Overall, it was a good lesson and it was very productive.

We went over the process of mitosis, cell cycle, and meiosis. We looked at the diagrams and discussed the differences among the phases. Once I started explaining some of the concepts, the student was able to catch on and use that information on the other phases, and he made conclusions about some things that I said. He's good at absorbing the information and applying it to something else.

This week we reviewed class material on endocrine systems. We discussed the role of the hypothalamus and pituitary in hormonal control. The student completed a homework assignment diagramming regulation of calcium by PTH and calcitonin.
