Session Summaries by Physical Chemistry Tutors

Kendall, FL Physical Chemistry tutoring
At this session, the student and I continued to review for his final. I briefly quizzed him on last week's chapter (Gas Laws) before we started the next chapter (Equilibrium). For this chapter, we skimmed through the book for bolded words to define, and then we worked on problems at the end of the chapter. At the end, he appeared to grasp the subject. We then went over a test from the Gas Laws chapter, and I asked that he work on it as if it were a real test. I expect him to read the next chapter before we meet again.

Today the student and I worked on her chemistry homework (redox reactions) which also required us to go through the chapter and review the material. I feel that by the end of her session, she had a much better handling of the material. I asked her to finish her SAT practice test 2. She also had numerous questions about College and the application process that I tried to answer as best as I could.

This ability gives the transition metals a few special properties which we discussed. We talked about the relative atomic radii and reduction potential of the transition metals, transition metal complexes, oxidation states, and very briefly about Crystal Field Theory.

The student and I went over Le Chatelier's principle and chemical equilibrium. She has an exam on Wednesday so we worked on preparing her on how to solve for the equilibrium expressions of gases and solids. She seemed to understand the material well and should be able to succeed on her exam. She got pulled aside by her teacher for being the only student in her class getting all the questions correct on a worksheet, which is a great achievement! I did not leave her with extra practice and have no concerns.
