"The student and I went over past Math and Reading 5th grade state exam questions, as we need to continue getting him used to answering these questions and to see how he reacts to taking the exam. He did well in Reading again, and started out well in Math. He is very smart, and has a good mind. He is really exceptional at remembering what he has read. He needs to follow through on every step when doing Math."
"The student did a great job today on math. That is what we started with, and he had remembered the method I taught him for finding the LCD yesterday, so we were able to easily complete the addition of fractions worksheet in his packet. We also went over formulas for the area of squares, rectangles, parallelograms and to remember to add the units squared to his answers after he calculated them. We did finish reading The Lemonade Stand and completed a summary for Chapter 14."
"Our focus for the first session was on familiarizing the student with the test. You will notice on her note cards she has written down the different sections along with the number of questions and time for completion. The strong focus will be on providing her with test taking tips and strategies along with small practices to help her strengthen her skill set. Our first strategy is Q.A.R. Question Answer Relationships. She is to use the strategy while completing her assignments in reading and math this week. As I shared yesterday if any of the practices are too lengthy feel free to have her do 5 to 10 questions from the math, vocabulary, and to break up the reading passages. I am looking for her to use the skills. In the attachment you will find an 8th grade version of the ITBS prep book, that we are using for our sessions she has reading and vocabulary assignments . I have also attached some supplemental resources for Q.A.R. and test strategies for math Reading: 38-39 Vocabulary p 25-28 Attached is a math concepts and skill practice- She can pick up with questions 11-21."
