Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Very solid session...we reviewed six previous series 7 practice questions...10-17 on each test. This was a great variety of questions for the student. We also did a rapid fire question and answer session, which to me is important because this tells me if he really knows the material. He did well. He has continued to improve tremendously. 2/16 session: He and I had a 45 minute session, our last test prep session, and we went over options for about 20 minutes. This is always the hardest part for many people studying for the Series 7 Test. The main study areas were straddles, strike prices, and breakeven points. We finished by reviewing five practice tests of 10 questions each, on every possible topic that could be on the test. He seems more confident, and he did a good job. He is as prepared as he could be with 9 hours of study time over the last two-plus weeks. He has a great chance to pass this test, if he stays calm and takes his time reading each question, especially on options and interest rate questions."
"I met with the student at his home on Saturday morning from 9:30 - 10:30. Using the 4th grade test prep book, I asked the student to read a passage out loud to me. Focusing on detail questions, we answered 12 questions together. Sometimes, if I knew he was answering incorrectly, I prompted him to reconsider his answer, one time I allowed the incorrect answer to stand. He was happy to have answered 11 out of 12 correctly. We discussed what it meant to be "methodical" and I laid out specific steps of what he needed to do when taking a test. At our next session I told him I would ask him to read a passage on his own and answer the detail questions. We will review the steps and see how well he can do on his own."
"Today we worked through mostly the reading section (analogies). The student is pretty good in the math section, so I do not think she needs much more work in that section. In the reading section she may need a little bit more work. She has difficulty more with her vocabulary, so we are working on expanding that list. She does not struggle as much with determining the relationship between the words given. We went through strategies on how to come up with the best answer choice today, so at the end of the session she was better at determining the type of relationship between the words in the best answer choice."
