Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent the first hour going over his practice essays. He timed himself and wrote two different essays, and both were of the 'analyze an issue' variety since he has an easier time with the 'analyze an argument' essay. We spent the second hour going over a practice test he took. For the most part, the student is successfully using the strategies we went over when he is faced with vocabulary that is difficult and for reading comprehension questions that seem subjective. I have no doubt that with continued practice and tutoring sessions the student is going to do extremely well on the verbal and writing exams."
"We covered an even mix of reading comprehension, sentence completion, and sentence equivalence. The student has trouble with the sentence-based questions due to vocabulary concerns, which I addressed with a strategy of envisioning the answer before getting mired in the answer possibilities on the page. I left her with homework from the test booklet (reading comp practice problems, medium to hard)."
"Today was our first session. English isn't her first language, so we discussed some strategies on how to build up her knowledge and skill through context and repetition. We also talked a bit about her upcoming GRE and some methods to utilize in order to build up her essay score. She is very sharp. She's a critical thinker, and she learns very quickly. She just needs as much exposure to as many linguistic situations as possible so she can pick up the patterns."
