Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"As the student had a math test today, we did not go over mathematical concepts. Instead, we used our time to discuss his organizational habits and study skills and tried to work out some ways that he could improve in respect to these areas."
"We went over finding the volume of a solid given the shape of the cross-section and the functions involved. I gave her practice problems to work on and it seems that she understands how to do them. I have no concerns from this session."
"The student and I worked on her homework, which focused on geometry. She did an excellent job with the geometrical concepts. We are continuing to work on algebra and solving for x. After she finished her homework, we reviewed unit conversions to and from the metric scale. Next session, we will continue working on the new concepts. I also plan to review times tables with her to improve her speed and accuracy. Overall, it was a productive session."
"We continued to work on analog time math (converting hours, weeks, and days) and word problems. I also had the student read some paragraphs and answer questions about them. He was additionally asked to spell 20 words."
"Today, we solely focused on working with fractions. This included addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions. In addition to simple calculation problems, we worked on many word problems, which required critical thinking to set up the correct fraction ratios before the problem could be solved. It is apparent that the student is beginning to become more comfortable working with fractions, and she is not as intimidated by this topic as she may have been before."
"I checked over the student's math homework covering patterns and word problems. We worked on coming up with our own "pattern problem" (like linear equations). Then, we did some practice problems on order of operations for her test on Thursday. I noticed that she sometimes has problems with adding first instead of multiplying when parentheses are around. We talked about the strategy of checking off numbers you've already dealt with to focus as you move through the problem. Then, we worked on her math vocabulary, and she finished a final sheet on multiplying/adding/subtracting with recipes."
