Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's teacher provided her with a handout that outlined all of the topics that would appear on her calculus final, so we used that. We went over limits, continuity, and differentiation via a graphical, numerical, analytic, and algebraic point of view. When went over related rates, separable differential equations, max/mins, increasing, decreasing, points of inflection, and concavity. Lastly we did a quick review of what we talked about last time like particle problems, logs, exponentiation, areas, and volumes."
"We did a full review of the practice final exam in preparation for the student's exam tomorrow. Since the final is cumulative, this amounted to a review of most of the material the class has covered this semester."
"We reviewed all of derivatives, optimization, related rates, and the formulas associated with them. She did well in the application of the optimization once a formula was established. With related rates, she needed prompting to remember the differential when deriving the formula. With optimization, she had trouble realizing which formula was to be optimized and which was necessary for the substitution. With some practice, she was in top form again."
"During our session today, the student and I covered optimization, substitution, and handled various problems that were going to be on her final. She struggled with u substitution, but we did several problems and she started to understand the topic. For optimization, after I showed her the steps, she grasped it very quickly. She had several review problems from class to practice with."
"We covered applications of definite integrals in finding areas between functions. I also learned about his performance on the test (small improvement from before) and we need to work harder to get the grade to above 85."
"We discussed several word-problems the student had to work on - all problems stemming from solving separable differential equations, like population growth and radioactive decay."
