The student and I reviewed the ACT test structure, compared it to the SAT, and reviewed major concepts tested in Science, Math, and English. The student took some practice questions in each subject and we reviewed the ones he missed for areas of improvement.  The student will focus on recognizing question stems on the Science portion (and others) and tying the question to the information provided in the reading.  I also lent the student an ACT test prep book for him to use over the next few weeks.

During this session, as the student has admitted that physics is one of his weaker sections on the MCAT, we focused on strategies that would help with these passages. After reviewing his diagnostic test, we then went over concepts of bonding and Lewis structures. We then discussed a rough schedule of what he should study for the next week, and planned for him to take a diagnostic test before our next session.

We worked on Math and Verbal again for this session. We worked through data sufficiency issues in particular in a more focused way. The student has a good sense of eliminating wrong answers. To add to her strength we worked on when solving or partially solving algebra as part of data sufficiency can lead to the right answer vs. just processing it all in the head. We spent some time on Verbal also.

Continued to cover GMAT arithmetic with the student. We completed the arithmetic unit today and began the algebra unit, covered strategies including plugging in and plugging in answer choices. At his request I offered him some paper worksheets for basic math skills; he should work on these before next lesson. We are up to p. 145 in the textbook.

Worked on word problems (math) from a test review book; the student didn't have any problems except with a few extremely difficult rate problems that also gave me quite a challenge. He should do very well on the GMAT, since he is taking time off work to practice math problems.
