Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did well today. We read a book that focused on word blends mp, sk, th, sl and endings y, er, and ed. He also practiced some spelling with a final consonant and long a sound. He did a great job with his addition flashcards. We reviewed the clock, and he can easily tell the time with hours, and we will move on to practicing 5 minute increments in the next session. In addition, we practiced the days of the week as proper nouns and capitalization as well as writing the days of the week in various orders, and he did a fantastic job. He continues to do well!"
"The student is doing better in school. We worked on his math facts, double digit subtraction and addition, and then I gave him a test based on a worksheet he did at school. He is motivated to learn."
"The student is doing much better counting in sequence (i.e. 4, 8, 12, 16). He is beginning to memorize his times tables and we are continuing to work on his addition facts. He loves to play math games that include matching and sequence building. One of his favorite games is an inequality racer game that helps him compare numbers. He does his homework each time. His last homework included filling in missing numbers for sequences of 4. It appears to be helping him memorize his times tables. He also has a times table chart that he has been filling in and memorizing."
"The student is doing very well with fractions! Today we practiced more with converting mixed numbers into improper fractions and decomposing those numbers into two or more fractions whose sums add up to the desired number. From there, we extended the fraction practice by converting fractions and mixed numbers back and forth using the Ferris wheel method and long division. He really seemed to get the concept today and was excited to practice. Afterwards, for reading fluency practice, we chose a book on robotics - one area of particular interest to him."
"The student is doing well! Her endurance and dedication is outstanding for her age, because even when I offered her breaks she wanted to continue with the flashcards. Today, we were able to add more words from her spelling list, and she handled it well."
"The student is finishing up school for the year and is done with his assignments so for the session today and Thursday, we'll focus on different problems from each of the areas that he learned to identify any areas that might still need to be reviewed. We did division, equivalent fractions, improper numbers, and a few other worksheets that were designed to be fun and interactive. We'll do more fun and interactive worksheets on Thursday on different topics, but he didn't seem to struggle with anything we went over today which is great! Once we've wound down from 4th grade, we'll start some prep for 5th!"
