We started by looking at the two analytical writing tasks: "analyze an issue" and "analyze an argument." The student had written a tentative answer for a practice issue question. We discussed how it could be expanded and improved, then looked at an argument-type question and talked about how to break down the question and what we would write for the answer. Then we compared it to an example answer. We then moved on to useful vocabulary, expanding word lists, prefix lists and games, and then did a few verbal practice questions. The student is going to work on a couple more writing practice questions before next week's session. Overall, it went very well.

We began the session by reviewing the results of the student's practice test. We devoted time to discussing the unfamiliar words on the test and adding new terms to his lists for study. We concluded the session with geometry and data analysis practice problems and then I administered a quick quiz of old vocabulary. The student is a hard worker and continues to excel!
