Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is almost finished with her general review and we are both eager for her to start in with some real practice sections. She had no issues with the Geometry section and was going to finish up the statistics and data interpretation over the next week. I had her start working through the practice questions in her review book that are sorted by difficulty. The easy level questions went well. The thing she is most concerned about is any word problem because she has a hard time processing all the information, so I am having her get used to writing down information as she reads."
"Today we reviewed the student's questions from the practice test that he took since our last meeting, and we reviewed one of his essays."
"We began by going over several questions-none of which were overly concerning. These were in the chapter on triangles and probability. We worked through content on functions and series, standard deviation, and coordinate geometry. I assigned questions for functions and series, standard deviation, and data interpretation. The student is also going to do work on the final few unfinished percentage problems that she has as well as the verbal questions assigned for last time. She did complete the reading comprehension and said that she understood them rather well-much better than expected. We will discuss them again before finishing, though."
"We reviewed essay writing strategy and tips, overall verbal review with strategy, and some math. We also discussed what test day will feel like. The student has done great work, and I expect she'll do very well on Monday! Best of luck!"
"We spent the first hour and change on math: basic concepts, PEMDAS, adding/subtracting fractions by finding common denominators, multiplying/dividing fractions, exponent rules, definitions, and work with primes. We then switched gears to the writing sections, outlining the Issue and Argument tasks, with active discussion. We'll start discussing conventions of English grammar for the writing section next week."
"We spent the first hour doing vocabulary review. The student did a great job learning the new vocab. Then we turned to the issue essay. She needed help with organizing the outline, and we worked through a sample essay. At the end of our hour, we had a strong outline and she was feeling more confident about the process. For next week, she will learn the next section of vocabulary (F-L), finish the issue essay we outlined, and take a second practice test including the issue essay."
