Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Helped with the summer Geometry assignment. Topics covered were using graphs and tables to form equations and finding line intercepts and finding slopes of a line. Finding equation in slope intercepts of line that passes through a given points. Multiplying and squaring binomials."
"The student and I reviewed the first chapter in her Geometry book, reviewing some principles of algebra, as well as the mid point formula and the distance formula."
"Went over if/then statements regarding theorems and proofs. We also went over algebra 1 on reducing rationals."
"The student and I met to review the first couple section of his new chapter, which deals with area. He had only done the first 2 sections in class, which included area of a rectangle, triangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, rhombus, and kite. We quickly reviewed the equations for each, and it was clear that he understood these concepts, so we started his next chapter which included unit conversion and contextual rounding. We went over the basics and then reviewed his homework. He had a couple of minor missteps, but he applied the new material very well. He is more familiar and comfortable with the metric system than imperial units, so we went over conversions between inches, feet, yards, and miles. He caught on quickly and had little trouble as we went over his homework. He will be taught this section on Monday, so he will have another day to really master the material. He is very bright and did well in his first semester of geometry (95%)."
"Todays session with the student went really well. We prepared him for his final exam this semester and it was a review of the last/first chapters. I worked on helping him focus on the most important things to memorize so that he can be the most effective for the exam."
"In a previous session, the student informed me his previous math class skimmed over multi-variable algebra and solving for variables, which has become more and more prevalent in the material his class is working through. I brought some worksheets that covered mostly solving by substitution and elimination as review and practice. He had some questions about problem solving and algebraic properties (multiplying and dividing both sides), but after working through several problems independently, he seemed to have a better grasp of the concept. This material is very important because the class has moved into solving for like sides and angles with different variables, which will require solving by substitution."
