Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For the introductory session with this level 4 AP (grammar/culture) student, we discussed the areas in which she was expecting to need the most assistance: speaking, pronunciation, and subjunctive. We went over the basics of pronunciation (vowels and a couple of consonants) and stress/accentuation. We tried a little dictation, and I will be sending a listening exercise where she will be working on the script from the audio. She will be letting me know what is being covered in class and what may need more reinforcement for her. Her class is using Triangulo Aprobado and Una Vez Mas for texts. We are meeting again at the same time next week at which time we will discuss further scheduling."
"The student completed her quiz for Lesson 14. She will complete Lessons 15 to 18 for next week. In addition, she completed an entire book on complex reading passages for grades 7 to 8. For this week I will look for beginning high school passages for her to work on. In addition, I would like to send her some exercises on writing. This may be helpful in improving her already wonderful writing. As usual, she was a joy to teach."
"The student took a practice PSAT this week and scored a 1410, which is very impressive. He did almost perfectly on the reading and writing sections, and we spent this session going over his math section and reviewing math concepts that were relevant."
"This week we covered Spanish 1 questions. He is struggling with comprehension. I began the session by speaking to him in Spanish, but it was difficult to continue this way. I have to speak a little bit slower and translate many words for him. His attitude is positive. He picks up concepts quickly and is receptive to criticism. I am encouraging him to do immersive Spanish-learning by putting post-it notes on nouns around the house. This week I gave him extra practice assignment. I asked him to research one Latin American country that he will present to me next week. I have not seen any scores."
"The student and I went over many practice questions to study for her upcoming test on Monday. We did a lot of difficult problems covering quadratic equations, graphing, rate problems, and other word problems. She did very well following my explanations and working to get the right answer. With more practice, I think she will do well on her test."
"Today was my final lesson with the student. We did a broad review based on her requests. She has improved tremendously, and I anticipate that she'll do very well on the exam tomorrow. It has been a pleasure working with her the last few months."
