Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed questions from homework, discussed timing strategy, taught parallel reasoning questions. Analyzed time management of in-session timed section. Emphasized importance of committing to answer choice that matches prephrase without reviewing additional answer choices."
"We began our first section with a fifteen minute introduction. The student spoke about the specific materials he is using to study, his prior preparation for the first exam he took, and the goals he would like to accomplish in time for the September exam. We then went over a list of ten strategy recommendations relating to time management and response accuracy. We finished by reviewing two logic games, which I used to illustrate the benefits of creating game board solution subsets."
"The student and I studied distribution and hybrid games as the focus. Tutorial focus was placed on upfront deductions as an important prelude to attacking the questions. Limited options were also identified as a useful technique to being efficient in unpacking helpful deductions."
"We reviewed his work on the sequencing games I supplied last week. He did very well on those, and was able to complete a game in about 10 minutes. We then dove into selection games, where I showed him the standard sketch used for that variety of game. Then we took about 30-45 minutes going through a sample selection game, discussing: formal logic and how to make appropriate rule-sketches; rule trigger deductions; and "tight numbers" deductions. Finally, we began working on logical reasoning questions, focusing on general technique and "support the argument" questions in particular. I left him with some selection games to prepare for next session."
"We covered logic games again, going over the questions he had missed from the diagnostic test. He is still working through the grid method of solving these problems because it is a different technique from the powerscore method. He will be taking a logical sequencing practice test between this session and the next."
"We spent two hours on RC strategies. The student does really well accuracy-wise, but he has to work on speeding up the section. I recommended that he try skimming the passage initially on some practice tests this week and see how it affects his timing/accuracy. Next session, we will definitely focus more on RC and also incorporate some LR and LG."
