Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I began by reviewing the vocabulary I had asked him to look over during the previous week (chapters 7 & 8). He did well with this and overall a good job. We went through chapters 9 & 10 together and I asked him to continue with chapter 11 for next time. After vocabulary, we spent the rest of the session going over the grammar and a translation piece from the current chapter they are working on in class. He was better this time around, and seemed to master the other grammar fairly well. Translation strategies and abilities are getting better week by week and I can sense a much higher comfort level now."
"Today was a culture day, and we printed out the study guide and worked our way through the unit noting dates, people, and terms concerning the Roman Republic. The test is Friday, and she was able to complete the study guide, which should give her a good start. We discussed the importance of the concepts, which is a good way to frame the importance of the facts and details. We also completed a graphic organizer and a Roman Calendar, which were both due. A good, busy day!"
"This week, the student was working on chapter 13, on reflexive and intensive pronouns. He had gotten through the chapter, so, we went through some examples. We then went through several of the Latin exercises in the chapter, before going through all of the English-to-Latin sentences. Finally, we used up the remainder of the time starting the corresponding story in 38 Latin Stories. He is doing quite well!"
"Reviewed declension endings, vocabulary (chap 26), comparative and superlative forms of adjectives, and translation. Will continue to review basics with the student so that he doesn't forget them."
"Completed a number of exercises in translation and grammatical formation in preparation for upcoming final exam."
"Terrific session tonight! The student handled the present tense of the verb sum and nouns and adjectives in the predicate with ease, demonstrating a real command of the material by the end of the session. Great job tonight!"
