Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on a lab for plant growth. It was pretty easy. The student was still a bit confused on what he was supposed to do, but once we got that straightened out it was very easy for him. He was positive today. I just made sure he read the instructions closely and gave him small examples of how he should answer the question. He's going to do more biology and some health. His grades on the DBAs are even better than originally thought. It's encouraging. It was a good session."
"Today the student and I did an overview of different types of area and volume problems. We added cones, sectors and pyramids into the problems we have gone over thus far. She has most of the formulas memorized and knows how to use them. The ones she does not have memorized as well are the sector and arc length problems, but once given the equation she can solve the problems. We will be meeting again on Friday."
"We focused on practicing completing the square and quadratic formula, as well as graphing properties. The student felt optimistic about her recent tests."
"Today's session we covered arc length, inscribed angles, arc measures, finding area of an annulus. She asked great questions today. She did a pretty good job. I think she feels better about arc length and when to apply it. Also she knows the difference between a central and an inscribed angle. Also she knows that a diameter cuts the circle in half to make 180 degrees. She was able to find arc measures when given an inscribed angle and vice versa. The student worked very hard and I enjoyed working with her."
"The student and I worked a lot on angle and geometry relationships with circles, tangents, secants and chords. She was very excited to show me a good grade on a previous quiz. We did a full front and back worksheet as well as some supplemental book problems. She and I did some beginner intermediate and two advanced problems on the concept, so I could gauge her understanding. She needed some help, but once I explained it she seemed to have some grasp on how to solve it. I wrote down the steps and asked her to review and practice before our next session."
"We covered using the quadratic formula. We did a review of several problems from his homework and then looked over several online practice problems. The student knows this material, but made occasional simple mistakes like forgetting a negative sign or forgetting that multiplying two negatives yields a positive number. At the end of our session, he was showing improvement and had increased confidence."
