Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed his reading progress. Then I brought three new library books for him to choose from. He and I then read one of these new books. He was then given homework to read 40 minutes a day as well as to complete one chapter out of our summer book."
"The student and I reviewed his short story from last time, making edits to elevate the language and allow the reader space to infer things rather than spelling it all out. We then reviewed vocab and reading comprehension, which he did very well on."
"The student and I reviewed his spelling and vocabulary words. He missed about four, but when I gave him the words again, he got those correct. He should review all of the words before the test. Overall, he did a good job today!"
"The student and I reviewed his spelling words. We focused on plural nouns, and when to add to "s" and when to add "es." We continued to work on using base ten blocks when carrying ones to the tens place. In reading, he read another passage independently. He is being reminded to read the passage twice. Because he is a proficient reader, he has the tendency to read quickly, without paying attention to the details. Reading for a second time allows him to pick up important pieces of information to remember such as setting, main characters, etc."
"The student and I reviewed his writing assignment. We worked on mechanics. Then, he practiced analogies. We closed the session by outlining a potential TJ essay. He has a positive attitude and wants to improve his writing skills. I left him a vocabulary list to work through. He will write another summary paragraph and practice TJ essays."
"The student and I reviewed homework: getting the main idea of a passage and determining vocabulary through context. We also practiced determining the purpose of a passage and the tone through close reading of words, looking for modals and transition words. I gave more practice on guessing vocabulary through context and practice writing thesis statements - general to specific."
