Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on graphing inequalities and finding the space that was bounded by the restrictions. The student did really well on this. He knew exactly what to do and only made little mistakes such as multiplying incorrectly or adding incorrectly. We went over three of his homework problems as well as some problems that were review for his midterm. He should do well on his test dealing with this material as long as he takes his time and writes out his steps so he doesn't make little mistakes. He has really been making improvements and I am very proud of him!"
"On Thursday, the student and I first reviewed her work that she was assigned by her teacher. One of the things that I helped her on was her number lines and solving problems. I explained to her how to correctly notate a number line with negative integers on the left, 0 in the middle and positive integers on the right. We worked on a few problems on how she may correctly show her work. Also with working with rational numbers, I directed her to show all of her work. She wanted to skip steps, but in skipping steps would make simple calculation mistakes. I helped to make her aware of the mistakes she made. We also looked at d=vt again, and I reviewed speed/ velocity/ and rate. By following the units of rates, she can solve a problem. We did not finish the rate problems, so we stopped to continue it during the next session."
"The student did a great job applying the concepts that she did not understand from her first problem set. We went over supply and demand graphs, taxes, and optimization problems."
"We solved linear equations, and reviewed a little for the ISEE. The student understands the assignment, but just needs to slow down and remember to carry the negative signs."
"The student and I worked through some practice problems today in preparation for her upcoming quiz. Topics covered included working with quadratic functions, the quadratic equation, imaginary and complex numbers, and various types of word problems that are characterized by quadratic functions."
"The student is doing much better this year with her math class. I am continuing to give her more advanced lessons in addition to what she is learning in class. Today we continued our lessons on solving equations with absolute values. I gave her three problems to do for homework and we will meet again next week."
