How can a SAT Reading tutor help you?

The SAT Reading section is a very important part of the test. It challenges test takers to pull meaning and themes out of multiple passages to test their reading analysis skills and comprehension. This test, as a whole, can be worth a lot to students who need a high score to be admitted to their dream college. If you're one of those students, we can find you a great SAT Reading tutor near you. We at Varsity Tutors will try to help you receive that high score by finding you a high quality tutor. Contact Varsity Tutors for help connecting with a private SAT Reading tutor near Jacksonville, FL.

The SAT Reading part of the test is often underestimated; therefore, students study for it less. If you think that you'll be one of the unprepared students taking the test, a personal tutor will be able to make things clearer for you. There are several passages you need to read, and then you need to answer the 52 questions that relate to those passages, all in 65 minutes. If that is not enough time for you, your tutor can facilitate practice sessions, helping you gain speed in reading and answering the questions. Your tutor will always be by your side, giving you the tools to succeed on your reading portion, like tips in how to pick up on contextual clues or themes in the passages. Varsity Tutors' educational directors in Jacksonville can locate a tutor who could help you prepare for the SAT Reading portion of the exam.

The student began by overviewing the vocab from last week. I had to generate a few more mnemonic devices for him. I then taught him how to use trig functions to find a missing side length. He even found the volume of a triangular prism from the hypotenuse, one angle of the face, and the depth. I am impressed. We then did a few reading passages together.

The student sent me a few questions to go over today, and I think we figured out how to best go about answering the questions and gave her a little background knowledge for her upcoming test. We found a practice test that specifically goes over Domains 1 and 3 and covered those questions. She says she is feeling more confident as her test approaches. We will cover content questions tomorrow in our session.

The student was able to get some studying done since our last session. He's doing well with time management overall and is effective with skipping challenging questions to answer others that he can easily solve. Actually defining terms is one element that he needs to work on. He often thinks of terms in relationship to his daily duties, which is quite normal, but this test requires that he think of terms in context of the questions, which are not always relative to his current job function.

The student worked on math problems from the PowerPoint reference she initially provided, and we reviewed the ones that she missed. Problems involving measurement conversions continued to be a challenge for her, so I will send her a reference sheet that contains common measurement conversions, along with common metric measurement prefixes and their meanings to aid her. At the end of the session, I sent her a final practice test that she will complete on her own, and we will review the questions from it that are missed.

The student worked on root words today. We reviewed such roots as hydro, loc, astro, and terra. He thought of three words that contained the root word, used them discover the meaning of the root word, and then drew a quick sketch of one of the examples. For extra work, he will read Chapter 8 in "The Hobbit," complete a crossword about root words, and work in his textbook on spelling.
