The student and I covered a few of the problems that he got incorrect from the HW before turning to the balance of geometry and a few OG problems. He would benefit on some of the geometry questions from stretching and shrinking the proportions to the max/min. We talked about shaded area questions and quadrilaterals as well. I gave him Quant 8 for homework. Next session we will start to discuss number theory.

We did very difficult, mainly DS, quant problems today. The stadium one is worth going over again to get clear just how easy it can be (unlike how we stumbled, hehe). Please try the remaining DS problems and also do the Machine X and Y once or twice before we meet again.

In today's lesson, we continued working with a recent practice exam the student completed, using it to discuss a variety of concepts, including the area of trapezoids, Pythagorean triples, the properties of triangles inscribed in circles, parallel lines, and more.

The student and I worked on word problems, Critical Reasoning, and Reading Comp. We did some of the algebraic translations and rate problems from the GMAT prep book, emphasizing the need to define variables carefully and specifically. We read the "Hotels and Short Term Rentals" reading comprehension passage, and then we did Critical Reading passages, working on identifying premise and conclusion.

Today we reviewed cadences, their types, and modifying qualities (perfect/imperfect). I reminded the student that the Phrygian must have iv6 to V in a minor key. Also, perfect authentic cadence (PAC) has a 5-1 bass motion and 1 in the soprano of the I chord. I encouraged the student to listen to classical music and try to identify the theme terminology we talked about. The student should practice listening and sight-singing from the CD.
