"Student showed a great deal of grit and determination today as we practiced division of whole numbers with decimal quotients. He achieved 73% mastery of this difficult skill, and I believe he can get even closer to mastery by getting into the habit of always double-checking his work for calculation errors. He should also continue studying multiplication tables so that he can more quickly determine solutions for the inverse operation of division."
"Student and I went over completing the square and the quadratic formula. I gave him more advanced problems to complete, so he was better prepared for his exam. I also gave him a mini-quiz to complete in the allotted time to help his test anxiety and tackle it head on. He is doing a great job at attacking problems and is becoming more confident every week in his algebra skills."
"We reviewed homework involving inverses of functions. Student is able to determine the equation of the inverse of basic linear functions. Finding the inverse of quadratic functions is a little more challenging because of the domain restrictions, such as the one requiring x to be non-negative for the inverse of f(x)=x^2. It can also be challenging to understand the basic transformation that occurs with the inverse of a function, mainly that the x and y coordinates are reversed. He doesn't have any difficulty understanding how to graph linear functions. Most of the problems in the homework involved solving for the inverse of basic linear and quadratic functions, and then graphing both the original function and its inverse on the same coordinate plane."
