How can a tutor help your child master the ISEE?

Are you the parent of a student in grade school who is planning on enrolling in a private or independent school? If so, they may need to take the Independent School Entrance Examination, or ISEE, before they may be admitted to their first-choice institution. This standardized test has three levels, lower, middle, and upper, which are administered depending on the test taker's grade. Despite different levels, the subjects on all of the tests are somewhat similar. Every student may be assessed on verbal and quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, math, and essay writing. Consider placing your child in one-on-one tutoring sessions to help them properly prepare for test day. Contact Varsity Tutors for assistance in connecting with ISEE tutors near Virginia Beach, VA.

Each of the independent ISEE tutors that Varsity Tutors may help you find in Virginia Beach is experienced professionals who know how to teach lessons in a way that works for your child. Every study session may be student-centered and may promote a higher level of interaction between the tutor and student than is present in traditional education. Your child may receive assistance from their instructor as they work through difficult problems, as well as meaningful feedback that may help them learn from any mistakes that they make. Along with preparing for the ISEE's content, the tutor may also assist your child in mentally preparing for standardized tests by teaching them the study habits and organizational skills needed to learn independently.

During our session, the student utilized the practice examples to work on her quantitative reasoning. She worked her way through the problems and I assisted her when she needed it. We also discussed test taking strategies including narrowing down the possible answers and finding patterns in the numbers. The student is continuing to work on breaking larger problems into smaller ones.

ISEE Tutoring review by Renata in Virginia Beach, VA
Today, we started by reviewing the vocabulary flashcards. Also, the students completed the sentence completion section in the exam prep book. I taught them strategies for answering the questions and then let the do some independent practice. After working a few problems, I think that the students saw the value of going through the process. I then proceeded to assign the other pages from this section that we did not have time discuss to as homework.

ISEE Tutoring review by Lindsy in Virginia Beach, VA
Today the student and I reviewed the timed essay portion of her exam and worked on quantitative reasoning. It is my goal to help her become more comfortable with pacing while testing. I left a practice section that covers reading comprehension for her to do during the week. We will only be discussing practice problems, approaches, and pacing for the last four sessions until her exam date.

ISEE Tutoring review by Jessica in Virginia Beach, VA
The student worked on a math practice test for the first hour. She has a pretty good intuition for it. I told her that even though she was right most of the time, it's still good strategy to do the work and check to make sure. Then we worked on vocabulary. Her vocabulary is pretty good. I had her write down the words she didn't know, write a sentence using the word, and draw a picture. Finally, she started writing an essay.
