How can a tutor help your child master the ISEE?

It is an exciting time in a student's life when they decide to transition into an independent school. The application process, however, can often prove overwhelming. This is especially the case when you factor in the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE). Many independent schools require students to submit their ISEE score with their application. The score a student receives on the ISEE might significantly impact their chances of getting accepted. That is why it's imperative that students prepare in advance for the test. The most effective and efficient way of doing this is through the use of a personal tutor. If your child is getting ready to take the ISEE, consider connecting them with a personal ISEE tutor. They could help them manage the test material and develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed on test day. Contact Varsity Tutors to get connected with ISEE tutors in Redmond.

Let us connect you with a talented ISEE tutor in Redmond, WA, who is truly excited about the ISEE and teaching it to others. As your child works one-on-one with a personal ISEE tutor, they will have the opportunity to ask as many questions as they need. This benefit is often lost in the classroom or study group environment, where educators aren't able to address every student's individual questions. The direct dialogue between tutor and student is part of what makes the one-on-one tutoring experience so effective. Your child's ISEE tutor will work to answer all of your child's questions with informative and insightful feedback.

Session Summaries by ISEE Tutors

ISEE Tutoring review by Conor in Redmond, WA
This was our last session before the student leaves for a week for the holidays. We have finished reviewing every area of the exam and I feel confident in his knowledge at this point. The test is next week, so we are going to shift gears, focusing less on problem repetition and more on the essay and reviewing strategy and test-taking methods. We finished reviewing his word problem homework and talked more about the essay structure, taking another look at his previous practice essay. His ability to write a coherent introduction is improving and his overall grammar and spelling have improved significantly since his first essay. We finished the session by reviewing some of his strategies for vocabulary, typically his weakest area, and talked about his practice test assignment for over the break.

Today we focused on the student's assessment results from he past practice exam. I have constructed practice problem sets for her solely to include graphs and they will be drilled in the next available session.

ISEE Tutoring review by Dominic in Redmond, WA
Today we spent most of the time going through practice tests and identifying trends, i.e. typical problems that the student misses. We identified 4 main areas: geometry, percent change, simplifying (fractions and exponents), and word problems. We also spent some time figuring out which questions he worked corresponded to which questions on the website. Finally, I gave him several (around 50) problems to work to reinforce his weak areas.

The student and I spent part of the session reviewing strategies for specific types of questions (i.e. Sentence Completion in Verbal Reasoning Section - cover answers and fill in blanks with own words and then compare with given choices, etc.) and overall testing strategy. Additionally, I brought an ISEE practice test, on which we reviewed several problem solving questions in the Math Achievement and Quantitative Reasoning sections. The student reported feeling confident and ready for the test.

ISEE Tutoring review by Nicolas in Redmond, WA
The student and I continued our work on the writing section of the assessment test. In general, he performed well on the practice problems he attempted. At times his overall grasp of the material is very strong. I also feel that the practice is allowing him to recognize common question types and errors. He also did an essay prompt, which went fine. I assigned him another prompt and a practice writing section for homework.
