How can a tutor help your child master the ISEE?

If you are planning on sending your child to one of the competitive elementary, middle, or high schools, then chances are, your child could have to take the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) as a part of the admissions process. This test is given to students as a way to determine their admission qualifications. Students take one of the three ISEE levels that correspond to their current grade level. Your child may find that preparing for the ISEE is a stressful experience, but it certainly does not have to be that way. You could help your child maximize their study time and organize their sessions by having them work with a personal tutor who is hand-selected to suit their personality and learning style.

Call Varsity Tutors today to find professional ISEE tutors in Cranston, RI, to try to help you create a study plan that is catered to your child's skills, abilities, and learning style. By taking your child's unique style of learning into consideration, your tutor may be able to plan lessons that match their particular needs. Lessons will be as engaging as possible and could allow your child to converse openly with the tutor. Unlike in a classroom setting, they will be free to ask as many questions as they need until they fully understand the material. The tutor may be able to try to help your child improve their verbal reasoning skills, raise their reading comprehension level, and help them review their math computations, if necessary. The tutor can also work with your child to help them learn how to organize their writing for the essay portion of the exam. Working one-on-one could allow your child the ability to focus on any area that they are struggling with. Make good use of your child's study time by using an expert ISEE tutor in Cranston, RI.

Session Summaries by ISEE Tutors

ISEE Tutoring review by Benjamin in Cranston, RI
Today the student improved slightly upon the scores he posted last session, achieving a composite score of roughly 24. Because he made a few small mistakes in math, I think his score still could be higher. In addition, English is still hovering around 22, so I've decided that for the remainder of our sessions we'll prioritize math and English, and treat reading and science secondarily. I assigned some work for our next session.

ISEE Tutoring review by Jacqueline in Cranston, RI
The student and I reviewed Practice Test #3 and went over all of the incorrect answers for math and writing. He is scoring consistently higher on the reading and writing sections than he did previously. On the writing, he should work on reading the context of paragraphs to figure out correct sentence placement, and read the sentence in the suggested placement to see if it makes sense.

ISEE Tutoring review by Folami in Cranston, RI
The student and I worked on writing this session. We discussed the difference between a semicolon a colon and em dashes. We discussed ways to identify the location of a sentence in a paragraph, and ways to establish the best location of a sentence. We transitioned to math and he did really well. He solved some of the hardest problems with ease; he made the occasional mistake, but overall he did well solving the majority of problems with ease. We did spend a little time on a common base problem.

The student and I worked through approximately 60 SAT math questions with an emphasis on polynomials (including finding intercepts, factoring, and graphing), geometry (including Pythagorean theorem with variables, and surface area of unusual shapes), and creating/solving algebraic expressions and systems of equations. I assigned the student 30 math questions and a vocabulary list for homework.

ISEE Tutoring review by Lauren in Cranston, RI
The student and I worked mostly on the math section today, as her reading and writing have improved. Now that school is over I'd like to see her devote more time between sessions to study and practice, and I've given her some assignments that should help. Good job today!
