Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I first helped the student with her math homework on logarithms and word problems, with which she struggles. Then, we analyzed her test performance in February, discussing what she felt were her strengths and her weaknesses. Then, we created a four week/study review plan to help her prepare for the June test. The primary areas of focus will be the essay and strategies for knowing how to attack math and science problems. *Assignment: 1)Practice test #1 in Real ACT (red book) 2)Determine meeting schedule for week of final exams"
"Discussion of Macbeth, specifically focused on understanding larger concepts and themes in the play (such as who was most ambitious in the play, what caused Macbeth's fall, etc.). Also some general questions about European history and preparing for an exam."
"I met with the student today and had a very nice meeting with him. He is very intelligent, and motivated to learn. We went over some basic work with fractions, orders of operations, and basic arithmetic. He did well with the examples I gave him, and had no trouble. He will be practicing until our next meeting. "
"Today we primarily made sure the student was up to date on all of his homework. He told me his English went well and his Spanish exam on 3/29 went well (he said it was easy). However, he has a composition to write in class on 3/30 which is 250 words long. We started by watching the 13 minute video and analyzing it, making sure he was clear on the plot and major points. Then he formulated a plot for his composition response. He started by writing each sentence but then we moved to making a bullet point list of the plot points he wanted to cover. We made sure to put the verbs necessary and it was clear he knew which tenses he was supposed to be using. His vocabulary is ample enough to write the piece in class, however the thing he could get stuck on is thinking of things to write about, so we made sure to have plenty of those ready."
"Last session before taking SATs. We reviewed the practice sections she did last night (writing and critical reading) and talked about strategy for the writing MC section. Then we did 2 math sections to complete the practice test started yesterday and talked about a little last minute strategy."
"The student completed the entirety of lab 8-2 on palindromes. We have scheduled an additional appointment for tomorrow to go over complex numbers."
