Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we discussed the last two small paragraphs of the short story we are reading and after I asked her to give me a small resume of the entire story. She was successful in recalling the vocabulary used in the story. After that, I finished discussed the exceptions of feminine and masculine nouns and I had her complete a couple of worksheets. She breezed through the worksheets without faults. Lastly, I helped her finish writing an email that she was writing to an acquaintance."
"We introduced ourselves and discussed the level of the student's Spanish skills. He read aloud from a few introductory paragraphs and we talked about pronunciation and a few grammatical points related to the reading."
"During this one hour session, the student and I reviewed more material from her test. During this session, we reviewed the construction of tan +blank+ como as well as tanto + blank +como. After going over this, we did a few of the exercises in the book and she also translated sentences that I gave her. Additionally, we went over all of the vocabulary, and this is the main area that she will need to focus on in preparing for her test. She will be making quiz cards to review before the test. We also reviewed saber and conocer as well, and I emailed a worksheet to her teacher that would also help the student to prepare for her test"
"We reviewed the sounds of vowels and added the sound of J. The student read different Spanish words that include these letters. We reviewed subject pronouns, the singular and plural form of Who is? and Who are? We studied one of the two "To Be" verbs and talked about it's uses. I gave her a mnemonic device to remember it. Then we talked about the difference between a verb in infinitive and a conjugated verb. We created a rap song to remember all the conjugations. At the end of the class she corrected her own HW. This Thursday she will have a quiz reviewing everything we have covered so far. As homework, she is going to start creating a "talking wall" in her room including everything we have studied."
"I helped the student through his 10 homework questions about Pablo Picasso. We read through the passage together and I helped him formulate answers to the questions. I then helped him with 5 algebra 2 questions for half an hour. They were all problems that dealt with graphing parabolas."
"The student has his German final next Tuesday. He was given two study guides, one for vocabulary and one for grammar. Since the vocabulary would be easier for him to study on his own, he worked through the grammar study guide. I helped make corrections and provided explanations as needed. I also made some declension charts and diagrams for him to study on his own. It seems that the grammar section of the exam will mostly be fill in the blank and short answer. We focused on relative clauses; accusative and dative prepositions; nominative, accusative, and dative personal pronouns and definite and indefinite articles. We have planned a tentative meeting for Monday evening, but we will touch base over the weekend to confirm."
