"Today, the student and I had our first session. He took a diagnostic exam that I had prepared and then we went over the results together. I also spoke with his dad about the results. We agreed to also work on some of the student's basic math skills, as well as his geometry skills, to better prepare him for future classes."
"Today, we completed Chapter 4 and continued to Chapter 8. We covered how to use a coordinate proof to prove congruence or if a quadrilateral is a parallelogram. We also used the interior and exterior angle sum theorems to complete proofs. The isosceles triangle theorems and corollaries were also used in proofs. She did not struggle with any of the concepts, but was a little nervous in completing a proof by herself. She was enthusiastic with see how the proofs relate to knowledge she already had regarding angle sums of various polygons."
"Today, we continued reviewing the student's packet for starting the school year. We reviewed solutions of linear systems of equations and nonlinear systems of equations, factorization of second degree equations, solving second degree equations, solving linear equations, how to write line equations given slope and a point or 2 points, and calculations with radicals. I checked his understanding, and he told me he understood everything. Overall, the wins from this session are that he had a better understanding, and he is more confident on how to solve these kinds of problems."
"Today, we finished up our work with the Pythagorean theorem. We began thinking of how we can use the Pythagorean theorem in convert to prove why we knew if triangles were indeed right triangles. Finally, we wrapped up by putting the parts together and doing word problems that mixed together all of our knowledge."
"Today, we hit a lot of geometry problems related to symmetry, identifying shapes, and understanding the properties of different shapes. The problems were a little more challenging today, but we were pretty efficient and managed to work through a lot of them. We also briefly began discussing problems related to angles and angle identities."
"Today, we mostly reviewed things we have done previously. This included PEMDAS and fractions/decimals/percentage conversions. This is setting up for more percentage problems in the future."
