Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student showed me her essay from last Friday which she got an 83% on. I will be reading it over the week and reviewing it with her next week. She was quite pleased with the grade, because she said she could not remember enough facts while writing it and thought her grade would have been much lower. I read her introduction and she showed her capability in writing a strong thesis. For the rest of the session, I helped her with terms and identification on 3 chapters, plus a review of possible answers to 11 essay questions dealing with the subject matter of those 3 chapters."
"Today we reviewed Chapter 23, focusing on the 1920s. The student has a good understanding of this time period, as she usually does well with sociocultural issues. She successfully analyzed situations from different perspectives, which shows that her analytic skills are improving."
"Today we went over DBQs. I think the student needs a little more work on analysis of the documents themselves. He did a good job bringing in contemporaneous outside information which is good, but he needs to extract more information from the articles themselves in terms of interpretation. This is a skill we will continue to develop as it just takes time and practice. Next week we will continue going over DBQs, review multiple choice POE and continue our substantive review of content."
"I think the student is really getting a hang of this stuff. We went through a big problem with very little confusion, even with the mix-up of question order. I think these last two sessions have been the student's best work."
"I went over the student's Reading and Math homework with him. We then worked through some practice problems rounding to the nearest 10 and 100. Finally, I conducted a mini lesson on estimating sums to the nearest 10."
"We went over the verbal section, particularly analogies, antonyms, and synonyms. The student struggles with vocabulary, and she has to learn more words. I told her to make flashcards and read more higher reading level publications. We also went over the reading section and strategies for note taking for long passages. Then we went over geometric formulas like area and circumference of a circle, along with surface area of a rectangular prism. I asked her to do practice problems on her own, and we will review the ones that were difficult or she got wrong."
