Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Concepts covered today included identifying the pattern and rule in a series of numbers. We also worked with standard form, expanded form, and identifying place value. We also worked with algebraic equations solving for one variable. The student was cooperative today and did a nice job."
"During the first part of the lesson, I reviewed multiplying and dividing fractions with the student. I had her multiply and divide fractions as well as mixed numbers from a workbook. She was able to solve the problems independently and write the answers in the simplest form correctly. The next part of the lesson was a review on writing a fraction as a percent. She was able to solve those problems on her own. Then, I introduced a new concept on finding the average from a group of numbers. I demonstrated a few problems and had her solve a few on her own. Finally, I reviewed a few multiplication facts with her."
"During this session, the student and I reviewed place values. He did very well with these problems. I used online practice games for the mathematics portion of our session. He needed help with writing a short paragraph about his summer. Most of the paragraph included sentence fragments. I would like to work with him on writing complete sentences and spelling. I will provide additional practice on articles, spelling, and writing."
"During this session, the student and I worked on English concepts and reviewed his multiplication. Using his homework passages from our last session, we looked at punctuation rules for commas and periods, and also reviewed parts of speech like nouns, verbs, adjectives. We also reviewed sentence structure (SVO order) to help him understand the placement of commas. He demonstrated some understanding but found it difficult to focus on the lesson. Furthermore, we reviewed his multiplication tables to continue our color-by-number multiplication pages, which he found engaging."
"During this session, the student and I worked on order of operations. The last half hour of the session, we worked on ordering and comparing fractions. I showed her a more efficient way of drawing pictures of fractions that would make it easier for her to compare more than two fractions. I did assign her a little bit of homework: to memorize her 9's multiplication facts so she won't have to use her fingers to count. I will be giving her a little quiz at the beginning of Thursday's session to see if she memorized her facts or not."
"During this session, the student and I worked on understanding the fundamentals of division. We covered how division is related to multiplication, division with equal groups, and division with remainders. She has a good understanding of division and can divide by a one-digit divisor to find a one-digit quotient with and without remainders. She can also check division using multiplication. She was very focused during the session and displayed her best effort!"
