Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session, the student worked on some homework from algebra, which covered graphing and calculating slope. She struggled with focusing and keeping track of some numbers and points on the graph, but she understood the concepts and applications once she worked through a few pages of her homework. She then asked for some help on understanding independent vs. dependent clauses and analyzing sentences. We worked through some problems in the 7th grade language arts section that asked her to identify which part of the sentence(s) was the dependent/independent clause."
"During today's session, she and I focused on various graphs and several facts related to the graphs. The topics addressed were how to determine domain, range, intervals of increase and decrease, x and y intercepts, maximums and minimums, and describing the end behavior of the functions. I explained each topic and answered her question for clarification. She seemed to grasps the concepts quickly."
"For today's session we decided to review some topics that bothered the student on last week's exam as well as went over the new lesson for the week. For the first half of the session, we went over multiple quadratic equation problems and how to use the square root method to reach an answer. Initially, she had some trouble using the proper steps to reach the correct answer but after a few questions, each problem became very easy. The second half of the section was focused on imaginary numbers and how to identify, add, and subtract them. We primarily reviewed her homework and other than some minor mistakes, she was able to solve all the problems with very little issue. Overall the session went very well, and she seems to be understanding the material, but we won't know for sure until her next test."
"Friday we reviewed how the student's math quiz went and discussed the point he missed. It was on material that was covered when he was not in class (for cross-country) so he and some other students spoke with the teacher. Other than that, he understood the material. We covered the next math chapter section and took notes. We also worked on his science lab, and he seemed to understand the concept after discussing it. He wrote the summary of the lab and the title page."
"He and I continued to look at the Arithmetic on the test, adding ratios and rates to the material we went over on Wednesday. He seems to have a firm grasp on order of operations and sequences, but issues persists with addition and multiplication errors. Additionally, fractions, percents, and decimals seem to be a particularly troubling area. I am sending him homework focusing on these subjects and encouraged him to contact me if he needs extra practice."
"He and I continued with the introduction to the new topic: sequences. We started off refreshing some of what we had covered previously and then we started working on applying what he has learned so far. We started working with recursive rules for sequences and why you have to declare at least one value within the sequence and why we prefer the first term. He also needed some help with his computer programming class, so at the end of the session, I took a look and worked a bit with him on the program."
