"The student got an A on her 1st calc quiz. She even earned extra credit. She feels comfortable with current material, so we went ahead and previewed the next chapter on limits."
"Today we worked on the homework set from Econlab, the software that is used in class. We did screen sharing to complete the problems. I like the ability to screen share to work with the students, and it provides more productivity. We completed homework 1 and 2. Also, we started working on the last homework set. We did not finish and agreed to save that for the next session. Everything else remains the same. We continued applying the same strategies to the homework. We will continue to use same skills to solve the problems. There were just a few difficult problems but the student told me that there are many errors in the software. At a certain score the grade curves to a 100. He struggled a little on a few of the concepts, and I just went over the topic that he seemed to forget. Overall, he seems to understand a majority he learned and is applying it properly."
"We took a full math practice test and went over every problem. This was great practice to get the student in rhythm for the test on Saturday. He was an excellent student and I enjoyed working with him!"
"During our session, the student and I worked on combining like terms, the distributive property, and solving one-step equations. The student did pretty well with the concepts, but struggled on adding and subtracting integers. She relies on rules to tell her whether to add or subtract the numbers and what sign the answer should be. I introduced the idea of using a number line to visualize what needs to be done. I believe next session we need to focus on adding and subtracting integers before we tackle any more equations."
"I met with the student and his mother to discuss his learning style and expectations. We scheduled this meeting also to introduce ourselves, to determine schedule and transportation, and to determine our meeting place. Also, I briefly reviewed his books for one of two classes."
"Since the student is a grade level ahead according to Common Core standards, we have been working on statistics. I introduced mean, median, mode, and range, then had her work through several word problems finding each of the above. She has picked up on this concept very quickly"
