Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did a really excellent job today! We went over the forms of the subjunctive together as well as some translations. He is really starting to internalize these forms, and I think he understands how important it is to review and memorize the subjunctive before moving on to translations. I will be scanning and emailing him conjugation charts that will help him with this process."
"We met to go over the student's oral test for his Japanese class this Friday. We went over all of the sections mentioned on his oral test sheet and went through the role play part with two different scenarios. He was familiar with most of the topics. His biggest hurdle will be to learn all the vocabulary pertaining to the sections. He has the grammar down pretty well. If he needs another session before this Friday, it can be arranged."
"This session we covered Chapter 3 of Latin: An Intensive Course; we discussed purpose clauses, indirect commands, ablatives of means, and ablatives of manner, and then we practiced identifying and translative those clauses/constructions in the exercises and translated the next segment of the Aeneas story. He was struggling a bit to understand the difference between primary and secondary sequence of tenses (when discussing purpose clauses), but seemed to understand by the end. We also discussed translation strategies as always. Extra practice is reviewing the grammar, vocabulary, and exercises for Chapter 4. No scores. No concerns."
"We went through practice reading problems today, focusing on critical reading. We covered literary fiction and natural science passages, and worked on passages of varying length and difficulty for variations. The problems we went over were more challenging than the ones typically asked on the PSAT, so this will hopefully help the student perform even better on the PSAT."
"The student showed good signs in the English section, but she showed a little concern for the time management aspect. We've discussed ways to help with time management, and she should be able to handle the ACT adequately. She will work on Reading and Science on her own tonight before tomorrow's session, and we will resume work with Math. She understands Math well, but she has problems analyzing the process of answering questions sometimes. We'll work on expanding her knowledge base as much as possible before Saturday."
"Today, we talked about the student's new job and how he is getting started. We then did more exercises from his workbook. Then, we returned to Die Physiker and read to the top of p. 61."
