Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we focused on SPSS. I shared my screen and walked the student through the interface, data view, variable view, assigning labels, etc. I conducted a chi-square test of independence, and we walked through the interpretation of the output including the test statistic, p value, and odds ratio. We have another session scheduled for Tuesday of next week."
"Multiplication of 2 digit numbers: The student is improving. Division: He understands this concept well and was able to do the homework correctly after one demonstration. Science: He knew most of the concepts correctly; uneven distribution of heat, convection, wind and pressure. We went over each of the topics to prepare him for a science test tomorrow."
"My first session with the student went very well. We started going over some math homework she had online, and while she worked through it, I answered any questions she had and went over mistakes she was making. Her homework was focused on combining like terms and solving for a variable. She understood all the steps involved, but would sometimes forget a negative sign, or get mixed up on when to divide/multiply. I had her work on similar problems from an algebra textbook she had. I also had her set up algebraic expressions from word problems. After needing help with a few problems, she was able to work through the remainder independently with little to no mistakes. Now that I have a better understanding of what she knows and needs help with, I'll make sure the work I provide her (mostly through her textbook) will be challenging. My goal is to make sure she is not only doing well in school, but getting ahead. I think she is very capable of that since she grasps concepts quickly."
"My student didn't have any homework today. He wanted to practice multiplication and division of fractions and mixed numbers. We worked on multiplication and division problems. He felt very confident about the concept by the end of the session."
"Nothing specific was covered today - we spent our time doing about half of a diagnostic test in the Algebra 2 section, though a good portion of that was on reading/interpreting data sets. Although nothing really new was seen today, she was still diligent through the less exciting review. Next we'll continue with newer material if he doesn't have questions about what he's seeing in class!"
"Now the student has the algebra exam tomorrow, so today's session focused on helping him prep for his exam. We reviewed the same set of questions that I reviewed with him yesterday. We reviewed quadratic equation, completing the square, and transformations. We also reviewed when the equations were presented in different forms, but still required the use of quadratic equation. We reviewed absolute value equations along with using grouping to help solve cubic functions. Overall, he appeared to do very well. He feels confident about his exam tomorrow."
