"Today, I first went through triangle similarity. We went over the AA, SSS, and SAS postulates. We also went over problems involving the ratio between sides, calculating missing sides for similar triangles. I then introduced trigonometry. I reviewed the Pythagorean equation and defined sine, cosine, and tangent. I had the student identify each of them for different right triangles."
"Today, the student and I covered chapters 6, 7, and 11 of his textbook, which were on similar polygons. He did very well with these topics. He is still struggling with more complex work with circles, which we will cover in our next session."
"Today, the student and I worked on parallel lines, vertical lines, congruence, arc length, and shaded area with radius and angle size. He was interested in the material and made sure he understood. I left him with about 40 problems to work through."
"Today, the student finished his test for section 4, and we began section 5, which has to do with special triangles such as isosceles and equilateral triangles. He understood the concepts after I explained them."
"Today, the student solved simultaneous equations by substitution and elimination. He had done this previously, but he didn't remember the steps. I will continue to work on this during our next session. I also reviewed domain and range and the parent functions - linear, quadratic, cubic, absolute value, exponential, logarithmic, sine, and cosine. We also did the inverse of ordered pairs, illustrating the symmetry over the line y = x. During the remaining sessions, we will find the inverses and compositions of functions, find direct and inverse proportions, and do more on graphing."
"Today, the student tackled the performance project at the end of chapter 4. This entailed mapping and choosing an architectural structure designed to be a subway entrance on a plaza next to a fountain. She had to figure the floor area, volume, and surface area without the floor for the three possible choices. The shapes were a cylinder, pyramid, and a dome, which was a half sphere. She completed the entire project and did a great job once again!"
