"We covered topics in Algebra I related to simplifying expressions. The student is good at distributing positive numbers into parenthesis expressions but struggles with remembering to distribute the negative sign to both values in the parenthesis. Two strategies we discussed are 1) organizing the homework paper so there is room to solve the problems and 2) circling the answers so they are easy to find. Great first session, looking forward to Sunday night's session."
"We covered word problems and how to convert them into equations. The student did not seem to struggle at all. I only noted just a few minor mistakes where she forgot the negative sign, but she corrected herself after I asked. We then made our own word problems, and I made up some other word problems for her to practice. She felt pretty comfortable, and we made good progress!"
"We did an hour-long quick review with last tips before the student was to take a test on dealing with rational expressions, radical expressions, and absolute values. I gave some hints for handling the same, and together we practiced with several problems from the textbook, with him solving them separately from me, then we compared answers. He was generally getting them right. He seemed clear on the concepts."
"We did assignments in preparation for a test. The student was well prepared and needed support in some basics, and his confidence improved a lot. Topics covered were equations and solving for a single unknown variable. Class was well received by the student."
"We did Latin flashcards for the beginning. She got a few cards wrong, but we went over them until she got them correct. She was motivated to get them all right. She also identified different ethos, pathos, and logos parts of Julius Caesar. She also showed me the script she wrote for her play, which is very creative and interesting. If she can bring her passion and excitement for theater to other subjects (like history which she says she dislikes), I think that she could excel even more!"
"We did practice problems that included graphing lines, finding equations of lines and finding domain and range. Then, we looked at transformations in the terms of f(x) compared to g(x) and also how to find the equation of g(x) when given a set of transformation and the equation of f(x)."
