Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent time this morning planning how to approach his upcoming semester. We changed his schedule to include a CJ class, Spanish, and an additional communications class."
"In today's lesson we first reviewed the student's work log for the last three/four days. He had only done part of the work assigned. Next, I helped the student plan his work log for the next three days and emphasized the necessity of writing of what you actually did on the day. Then I helped him in understanding U.S.-Canadian relations for his American government/economics class."
"The student and I met to review his assigned summer homework. He has a big packet with ELA and science/math work. He read his assigned summer reading and had an assignment to create three graphs charting the emotional development of a character throughout the book. He needs more help with time management, so I created a schedule of what he had to have done before our next session and made plans regarding what we would complete during our session together. While tutoring, he completed one of his graphs and plotted out what he wants his other graphs to follow. My long term goals for the student are mostly surrounding time management and teaching him how to break up time so that he isn't left with laborious work last-minute."
"We worked on the student's essay about Nietzsche. He completed the research phase, outlined the paper, and wrote a majority of the paper. He was not struggling with the material, so we mainly worked on strategies to better his writing process. He feels more comfortable with this paper compared to the previous one. He did better finding the overall theme and purpose of Nietzsche in regards to education. I demonstrated example essays to work on introduction and structuring of his paper. The main place where I look to improve his writing is in specifying his information. I asked him to complete the rough draft before our next session so we can proofread and move on to new material. His writing is pretty good overall, and there are only a few areas that call for improvement, and we have discussed those points. I look forward to revising his paper with implementation."
"We worked on the student's homework (PowerPoint project) on his Reading Language Art regarding Christmas celebrations in various countries. I also helped with vocabulary studies and simple multiplications."
"We worked on the student's review for his upcoming midterms. To help him study more efficiently, I created a weekly calendar for him to use before our upcoming session. It includes which chapters to go over each day for his world history and biology midterms. Also, for his world history midterm, I created a checklist for him to use while studying. Our goal is for him to review all study material before our next session. I plan to go over multiple-choice problems for his biology material."
