"Today we learned basic body parts then played "Simon says" with the new vocabulary. They students each picked a book to read and one they read together. Then we played 99 ( a counting/adding game) and go fish. They didn't want to stop!"
"Today, we practiced intonation during an hour-long skit exercise. I would assign scenarios and characters, and the student and I would converse as means of practicing pronunciation, sentence structure and intonation. During our second hour, we read about the American Revolution and completed a practice worksheet about the pronunciation of words that end in "s"."
"In this initial session we reviewed the student's and tutor's backgrounds in English and Spanish and set 3 general goals (1. increase understanding of English language 2. Improve pronunciation of words 3. Improve comfort within English conversation settings). We decided that setting more specific goals would be helpful as the lessons progress. Information wise, we discussed general similarities and differences between English and Spanish and reviewed the English alphabet. The student said she has some understanding of English but struggles with conversation/contextual use and verb tenses (past and future specifically). One mini lesson we started to work on is introductions and "small talk" about the weather. The student agreed to spend her homework time focusing on the English alphabet and brief introductions and weather talk."
