Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over test-taking strategies, which only required one hour. He had been preparing for a while, so he was ready in terms of testing material. For this session, we just went over strategies to help him save time on the exam and get the highest score possible. I am happy to say I communicated with him after he took his exam and he feels that it went very well for him."
"Student and I primarily focused on science this session. He does well with biology, earth sciences, etc., but struggles to a degree with chemistry and physics related questions. That becomes apparent when reviewing the practice tests. That will be a focus moving forward. At the end, we touched on analogies to improve his scores on the reading section. We will continue to practice with various aspects of reading and writing."
"Student has decided to take the ACT, so I told him how it differs from the SAT and gave him an overview of each section. We did two practice passages from the science section, looked at a few editing questions, and then focused on math. We covered PEMDAS and writing equations from word problems. I asked him to do a practice science or reading section before our next session."
"Worked with student on examples from all four tests. Has improved greatly in science and reading. Averaging two wrong in each reading section and just one or two wrong in each science section. Maintaining good grades in English and math. I feel very confident that she will perform well on the test."
"We covered more math problems as well as some science problems today. We went over strategies on how to quickly and correctly answer science questions with long passages or complicated charts. She seems to be getting more and more comfortable with math problems especially. I also taught her some basics of Trigonometry, which she does not have any experience with through school yet. She was attentive and seemed motivated. I will be sending her more practice problems again this week and cover some of the other subjects, like English and Reading as well."
"Today's session went well. The student and I went over generalized strategies, honing his overall understanding of the material, emphasizing the basics of each section. I look forward to our next session next week!"
"The student and I had one more session before he took his ACT on Tuesday. We again spent time hitting all four sections to keep his mind and strategies fresh. He completed the English and math sections of a practice test, which were very good. We talked through the questions he missed on English and the only two questions he missed on math. We did two practice reading sections in a shortened amount of time, which were both very well done as well. Lastly we looked at a hand of science questions that he had no trouble with, per usual. I'm very optimistic to see his next set of test scores!"
"Since the student has taken a couple practice assessments in the past, we jumped right into the strategy and content for writing, focusing on complete/incomplete ideas, punctuation, common grammar errors, and more. We practiced several passages from the assessment guide, and he became familiar with the patterns of the question types. Continuing on, we went over math strategies with plugging in for algebra, unspecified values, and plugging in the answers. He understood these strategies quickly and was able to apply them on his own. We covered as much content review as we could until the end of the session. I will send over some additional practice so that he can solidify his use of the strategies we covered."
"The student and I met to prep one more time before the assessment at his school. He was doing really well. We focused mostly on reading and science and his timing and accuracy were definitely improving."
"The student and I went through an English and Reading test and discussed strategies for these sections. I added a few more words for her to memorize in addition to the previous ones for Monday."
"The student received his assessment scores for the exam. Next session we are going to do a math exam section and a science exam section in entirety. He did very well in upper level math on the exam. I encouraged him to study them more and added new words to the list. Reviewed his practice essay. He had many good ideas and we brainstormed others to help him come up with points to include in the essay. He did well on the science section we went over."
"Today, we focused on her math/English homework, and then we covered more math and discussed the differences between the two assessments."
