Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we went over a hand-picked selection of math practice problems, with a focus on longer word problems. We also discussed general test-taking strategy. She has shown definite improvement, and as long as she doesn't hesitate to take the first step on these problems tomorrow, she will be fine."
"The student is incredibly bright and more than anything he just needed to become familiar with the format and question style of the assessment, which is just less straightforward than most tests. It seems like he's absorbed a lot of information from our sessions and has been able to use it effectively on his practice tests."
"This was the last session before the student takes the assessment test. We reviewed persuasive writing strategies to make her writing more effective. We also practiced some of the vocabulary testing questions in the Critical Reading section. The student is supposed to practice vocabulary words this week before her exam. Her family has asked me to continue tutoring her in writing subjects after the test."
"We did practice problems for the three sections of the assessment and covered some of the things that were most difficult for the student. I also gave him some general test taking skills that he applied in the practice problems. The student has a very good understanding of the material and I'm sure that he will excel on the practice test that he has scheduled in a couple of weeks."
"The student and I continued to review her practice work. She is making great improvement in her scores. She will continue to work on practice material this week for our final review session on Friday."
"The student has been practicing speed reading with her history textbook throughout the last two weeks, and her reading pace has increased in general. The student had good comprehension as well. She is now fast enough in reading the passage that she can take a little more time on each question to read it through thoroughly. We also reviewed some vocabulary and added five new words."
"We covered practice math questions and assessment passages. We continued to go over practice sections and I left both of them with the advice to go through practice questions for the remainder of the week to better prepare for the assessment this Saturday. They seem motivated to study and are ready to take the assessment test this Saturday."
"I met with the student for another session of assessment tutoring. In this session we focused on the writing portion, both the essay and grammar. We continued to go over various grammar concepts which seemed to help the student improve in that area. We also practiced math and reading and she did well."
"Today we reviewed assessment Math Test that the student completed over the weekend. I showed him a method to do rate x time = distance problems. We also reviewed some strategies for algebra simplification problems. We reviewed some concepts such as difference of squares and even and odd functions. We also reviewed the simplifying expressions online test that he completed as well."
"We went over the math problems that she had difficulty with, then I provided her with a critique of the mistakes I observe her as making. We then did some more math review and finished with a short, timed drill of some practice problems, which she had some trouble with. I left her with encouragement to practice math under timed conditions."
"The student is ready to go. She scores consistently above the goals she has set for herself, and I'm supremely confident in her abilities to do well on Saturday. Let me know how it goes, and remember to keep in touch about college essays, etc."
"The student and I covered grammar rules and did practice questions from the writing section. He has been working on vocabulary on his own, so I asked him some Sentence Completion questions to gauge how he was doing on vocab."
