Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on writing today. We talked about tongue twisters and haiku's, then we wrote our own. I asked the student to write in her journal before our next session."
"This first session was for me to meet the children and introduce myself. Their background is Czechoslovakian. The children are well adjusted and speak and understand the English language. They are able to communicate effectively. First, I reviewed with Student 1 a homework worksheet on pronouns. Then he read aloud a chapter in his chosen book. I asked comprehension questions, which he was capable of answering verbally. When I asked for him to write about what he read, he produced a few sentences. Focus for future sessions needs to be on reading and writing skills. His math skills are strong. I worked with Student 2 and found her reading, comprehension and writing skills to be strong. She just needs to slow down a bit with her reading and writing. We will address this in future sessions. Her math skills are strong. It was a pleasure working with the children."
"The student and I worked through vocabulary terms for her Reading final exam. Then we practiced scientific notation and diagramming sentences."
"We had a fun day learning about the letter B. The student practiced her handwriting by tracing upper and lowercase B's. We reviewed the sound B makes, and identified if the sound was in the beginning, middle, or end of various words. We read a book about B's, identified B's in a letter maze, and showed how B's can look different with a font maze. She even created her own B book. She is doing well retaining information and showing enthusiasm to learn!"
"We had a good session yesterday. The student did really well with a passage that was at the top end of his grade level. We moved on to some fluency practice and a few grammatical activities."
"We had a good session, and the student stayed interested and focused for the hour. She is showing strength in small, connecting words. On the larger words, as cited by her mother, there is difficulty in memorization and comprehension. We'll be working on that. We'll also be conducting the next session earlier in the day by a few hours at her summer camp location."
