Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's quiz covering specifically the use of "se", translation, and the preterite tense. The student was struggling translating some words from English to Spanish. She had a positive attitude toward the material being reviewed. I included some explanations about translation and a chart of how to conjugate some verbs. I saw progress on some vocabulary words. It was a great session full of a lot of reviewed material."
"Based on past success and improvement, at this session I had the student do more exercises with writing sentences and paragraphs from words and conjugations that we have already reviewed and practiced. I also introduced him to "imperative/command" conjugations and had him write about 10 sample sentences for me. Afterwards, I provided 10 practice, fill in the blank questions for para/por to get him used to the distinction. We went over all the answers. He appears to have grasped the imperative form of verbs and understands what his mistakes were and why on the fill in the blank exercises. We concluded the lesson by quizzing him on new vocabulary words that were introduced during the lesson."
"During this session, we covered the main components of essay writing. I quizzed the student on what we went over last time, and I asked him to identify key parts and functions of an essay. Then, the student identified certain aspects of their own essay."
"For this session, I provided the student with a video and material on business terms in Spanish. Together, we will be working on an interview, and I will be showing him how to properly engage with an employer, how to discuss qualifications in the target language, how to use the proper you form when addressing an employer, how to discuss education and experience, and teach him how to ask questions in Spanish with correct Spanish grammar. He has explained to me how he would like to learn this subject, and has expressed to me that it will be a necessity for his exams to know this topic when he gets back to school. I have instructed him to go over the material before our session so that he can have questions ready for me when we begin. We hope to gain lots of knowledge from this session in terms with vocabulary, creating sentences, and asking questions."
"For this session, we mainly focused on listening skills in addition to reading and speaking with note taking. The student listened to some audio recordings (1-2 mins long) and she had to take notes to figure out what the audio was about. She only listened to them twice. She then read and spoke the audio aloud. Afterwards, sentence by sentence, she had to translate the meaning. I helped her using context clues and other skills that she can use. I see her improving, especially with her listening. I made her another worksheet regarding direct and indirect pronouns, which was covered from last session so she can continue to practice."
"I had a follow up session with the student and her cousin because they both needed to go over written and oral assignments. They are studying between sessions and improving their Spanish language skills."
