Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did not complete the problems assigned, so the first part of the session was spent finishing them. He took a no calculator section test and then scored it. He missed only 3 problems and scored his highest score so far on a practice test. I assigned a timed calculator section test to be done before the next session on Monday."
"The student had a few questions about graphs on his homework. Mostly, he did work in physics. We discussed the topics of force and Newton's laws of motion. We talked a lot about equal and opposite forces, and inertia. "
"The student had three packets on periodic table trends and Coulomb's law. We went through most of the problems, and stopped to further clarify if he had any questions. He will have a test on this material on Friday. He mentioned that he may want to meet before then to review further."
"The student has a better idea of the base of chemistry. I'm encouraging her as much as I can, as she compared herself with students who have good grades in chemistry. Yesterday she said to me, "I wish you were my teacher." I was very happy."
"The student has a math quiz on systems of equations on Thursday and understands the different methods of solving systems (i.e. substitution, elimination, etc.), but has difficulties with solving word problems involving systems. During this tutoring session we focused on solving systems that involve mixtures of solutions. He solved 7 solutions questions on his own by the end of the session and thoroughly understood the concept."
"The student has an exam next week in his chemistry course, so we spent the entire session today reviewing the practice test prepared by his professor. There will be 3 sections to the test, and he feels that the free-response problems section of the exam will be the most difficult for him. He understood most of the topics before our review and after problem application understands all of the topics that were presented in his practice test. We worked on dissecting the questions to understand what exactly was being asked, and then we worked on developing a strategy to solve the problem. I encouraged him to always show his work in order to keep track of his thought process and to allow him to earn partial credit on problems. I think with some more review of concepts, he will be ready for his test next week!"
