Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent the vast majority of our time working through slope intercept form. He understands how to find a line from two points now and should be set for his final next Tuesday."
"The student and I prepared for his upcoming standardized testing. His teacher gave him a practice worksheet which contained several example problems. Many of the concepts were covered over the course of the last year."
"We did review problems in the book to prepare for her math test that's tomorrow. This covered multiplying, dividing, and simplifying polynomials and polynomial fractions. She did very well."
"In this session, we covered material from chapter 5. The student had homework assigned and did not fully understand how to solve the problems. I wrote out the problems on a separate piece of paper so she could understand the steps. She was able use the greatest common factor and solve by factoring. Her homework consisted of a mixed review, and therefore, she did not know when to use a certain method. By working out extra problems, she was able to solve her homework problems. Session was spent working on the skills needed to complete her homework. This session ended with us making flashcards for the hardest problems on the homework, using different colors and writing down the steps on the side. The student liked the idea of having flashcards as she is approaching finals."
"We covered word problems for this session. The students were doing well at setting up the problems, but both girls would sometimes forget to keep their equations balanced. I gave them a list of simple problems to complete in order to work on this. Overall, they had a strong grasp on the material."
"The student has a quiz coming up this week on Tuesday covering composition of functions and identifying domain and range of functions. In addition, he has his final exam for the semester coming up, and his teacher has given him a 20-page review packet to complete in order to prepare him. We spent the first part of the session on the review packet--during that time he noted that he had forgotten the distance formula and the Pythagorean Theorem. He made a note to review that further. From there, we went into completing the review of composition of functions. He handled those problems with ease."
